Well today is the day that we transfer ships. As I have mentioned before the water is quite low to the south of us so our ship cannot go down the river and another ship cannot go up the river. So we transfer between identical ships and continue on our way. So we get up this morning, Pack our bags and set them outside of our room by 830. We then board the bus to do our normally scheduled tours for the day. We get on the bus at 9 o’clock and travel into Nuremberg. On our tour, the bus takes us by Zeppelin field, Congress Hall, Courtroom 600 and other historic sites in Nuremberg relating to the Nazi era during WW2. After the driving this part of the tour we go to Nuremberg castle for a walking tour. Sitting on top of a hill you get a good view of Nuremberg. The city was about 90% destroyed during the war so there are few old houses left. The castle was only about 60% destroyed as the three towers of the castle were used as aiming points during the bombing runs. After we had about an hour and a half of free time we all met at a restaurant to have a beer, potato salad, sausages, sauerkraut and ice cream.

We then head for the buses to bus on to Passau. This turned into a three-hour bus trip as there was a fair amount of autobahn construction/repair. But, eventually we did get to our new boat, our luggage was all in the room. We then spent a few minutes unpacking, got a shower and in a bit had supper. So what with the, about four-hour tour into Nuremberg, the long bus ride, we were ready for bed. All in all though a good day.

Additional Information

After breakfast, disembark in Nuremberg and visit the ruins of Zeppelin Field, the Nazi parade grounds of the 1930s; then see the Palace of Justice, site of the infamous Nuremberg Trials. Alternately, you may take an optional World War II tour that includes the illuminating Documentation Center Museum. After lunch, spend free time exploring Nuremberg’s Old Town. Or, join an optional tour to discover the secret network of underground bunkers where priceless art was hidden in wartime. We depart just before dinner.
