Well – what a greeting to Belgrade! We wake up or better yet are woken up by loud rock music. Not coming from the ship but from a joint on a place across the river. Here it is about 5:30 AM and they have been going all night! Don’t know when they shut down but we had left the ship by then. Seems like there are a number of these joints on the river that go all night on the weekend. Oh well!
We did the standard shore excursion of the city. Went to the obligatory fortress on the hill above the city. It was a great view of greater Belgrade. After that, we did a tour of the central part of Belgrade. One interesting fact – during the Balkans war the US used a cruise missile to take out the Defense HQ right in the middle of town with virtually no damage to surrounding buildings! We went to the building. We also stopped at a big orthodox church for the usual viewing. But this one was different – it was not quite completed. The outside was really nice looking but the inside has not been finished and looks like they have a ways to go. We then went downtown and an hour of free time to wander on the pedestrian way in the center of town where the main shopping stores are. So we, Patricia, Pat, Coach and I wandered and then back to the ship. Had lunch and then hung at the ship – there was a shuttle back to the shopping district but we decided to stay aboard.
