September 2022 Fall Flowers

This month I will look at the flowers you might want to consider in your Fall Garden. Several you have seen in them in your Spring Garden, but they bear repeating at this time of the year. As you well know the flowers you plant in the Spring soon die from the heat. The same flower will last somewhat longer in the fall as the weather is not as hot. Yes, frost will get then eventually but you will probably have some better flowering in the fall. You can, in the fall, cover them on a cold night when there is the potential of frost, and they may last for a few more weeks.

So where do you go searching for your plants? In my article for March 2022, I mentioned several garden centers and nurseries that you can visit. You can expect the fall plants to be in most garden centers and nurseries somewhere around the beginning of September. Not all garden centers and nurseries will have all these mentioned plants. Further many will have other selections you may to try out this fall. FYI – outside of the traditional garden centers and nurseries I would consider going to the Mobile Flea Market. On top of this – it is just a fun place to visit on a Saturday or Sunday.

The list I show below is simply a list I find I interesting and reflects plants I have grown in the fall, with the exception of Stock. As you look at garden centers and nurseries you will find most of these and, of course, many others I did not include herein.

For each I have entered a few comments as to culture: sun requirements, size, soil type, and water requirements. Click on the picture of each flower and you will be taken to a website that will give you detailed information for that flower.
