Had most of today to look around Vienna. This morning we went on a visit to a farmer’s market. We have done this before in that we had olives, cheese, garlic cloves and bread. Still enjoyed it. Looked around the market – about 1 km long with food and some more for noon food ‘stuff’ – I did not go into this area but did look like clothes, etc.. We headed back to the ship – but I got off early to stop and see St Stephens’s cathedral. When we were here last they were starting to refurbish/clean the cathedral. Indeed they have pretty much cleaned up the outside – looks really nice. Cleaned up well. Went inside but they have not done anything inside so is still dark and dingy but they are getting there. Then went around the corner to the shop that sold various liquors from a 1 gallon, or so, bottle. They are still there – done some expansion and rearrangement but much nicer shop with more items.

Additional Information

Today we tour the Austrian capital of Vienna. Ride along the Ringstrasse, which replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century. See some of the city’s baroque architecture, including the world-famous Opera House, St. Stephan’s Cathedral and Hofburg Palace. Return to your ship for lunch. The rest of the day is yours to further explore. As always, your Program Director can help you plan your free time. Alternately, you may choose to join an optional excursion to see the famed Lipizzaner Stallions; or, express your creativity and create a lasting keepsake at an optional art workshop inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. After dinner, relax or enjoy an optional classical concert.

Enjoy a day at leisure in Vienna. Perhaps see an unrivaled collection of Old Masters at the Museum of Fine Arts, or visit the Albertina. Maybe ride the Riesenrad, the world’s oldest Ferris wheel. Alternately, you may join an optional tour to Schönbrunn Palace, the “Versailles of Vienna,” or enjoy a Viennese waltz lesson as well as visiting the palace during a full-day optional excursion. A cup of coffee or tea and a slice of exquisite Sachertorte are a must for any afternoon in Vienna. Later, rejoin your ship and sail for Budapest.
